About Us
* Shane Owenby RPT (Registered Piano Technician)
Piano Technicians Guild, Musician BM Berklee College of Music, 20+ years experience in the music industry.
Shane Owenby isn’t just a piano technician. He’s a musician, a former music teacher and a collector of vintage and antique pianos.
Shane grew up playing an organ in his living room & trombone in the school band. By the time he reached college, he had a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Back then, he considered himself primarily an aspiring musician, but he passed a technician’s workshop daily on his way to school. The seed was planted.
When he graduated, he and a friend opened a music school in Cary, North Carolina, near Raleigh. When he and his wife had a son, they decided to move back to their hometown of Asheville, North Carolina, where their families live.
Searching for a change, Shane sought out a nationally recognized piano technician. He apprenticed for two years, taking on the knowledge of piano restoration, refinishing and repair that his mentor had acquired over several decades.
Today, Shane owns many vintage and antique pianos, a testament to his love for fine pianos. His love of playing and zeal for collecting gives him an edge over the many technicians who neither play nor collect.
* Colleague - Paul Wesley Piano Technician, member Piano Technicians Guild, 20+ years in piano industry.
Paul, our lead technician, is responsible for a majority of the piano action repair and rebuilding, including re-stringing.
Paul started in the piano business in Jacksonville Fl.in 1984 as a mover and as an apprentice piano technician. He learned how to rebuild pianos in a used piano store for 3 years. A move to Detroit Mi saw him take on a job as head technician at one of the largest used piano stores in SE Michigan. During these years he honed his skills as a tuner and piano rebuilder. Also involved in the community Paul was a singer and the first President of the internationally acclaimed Detroit Concert Choir.
Starting his own piano service business in 1991, Paul tuned pianos for The Detroit Public Schools, Wayne State University, the Grosse Pointe Public schools, and many area churches. 2002 saw Paul get married and move to western North Carolina where he now resides and tunes and rebuilds pianos. Some of the concert tunings have included Niel Sedaka, George Winston, Rickie Lee Jones, The Michigan Symphonietta and The Glenn Miller Orchestra.
