An unusual encounter today, as I looked at my schedule to notice that there was a piano to tune that the customer stated was an “English piano” and that it was also a “Piano Bar”. I thought I would arrive to find something that was not even serviceable but to my surprise was quite interesting. It was a Sohmer Console-Spinet, not an English piano at all but one made in New York, that actually had a bar built around it. It was a good design and quite the conversation piece. After extracting it from the shelving and opening up the piano, I found it to be 1/2 step flat and proceeded with the pitch raise and tuning. The piano was tunable and the action worked adequately. After completing the tuning and the small challenge of putting it back together it was time for the party.
The piano bar was well traveled and had lived both in the north as well as the south and according to the customer could tell many stories. I am always glad to run across something new and interesting and on this day it was most certainly a pleasant surprise. Enjoy the photos!
